When Odd Things Happen, Look For God

In my blogpost from July 3, 2019 titled, “God Is Always Up To Something, He NEVER Sleeps” I mentioned a video about my shrimping friend, James and his boat the Waymaker. About how we use to look for shrimp together, help each other out when we were in need and shared many a meal together after long hours of nonstop shrimping. After he bought the Waymaker we didn’t hang out together that much because his boat was much bigger than my 42′ Eva Marie. After I sold my shrimp boat in 2007, I only saw James one time that I can remember when he gave me some squid to boil.

You know “God Really Is Always Up To Something” and usually it’s only after the fact that we figure out God was setting up things to work out in ways we could have never imagined. Would you believe on Thursday July 11, 2019 James called me to tell me he was coming into port about 10 minutes from my home where I use to dock my Eva Marie. Tropical storm Barry was getting close and James decided not to go home with the Waymaker because the floodgates were already closed where he normally went into port until after Barry was gone. Since he was shrimping in the gulf south of us, he headed here and decided to call me. I went meet him at the dock in Delcambre and after visiting with him there I offered to let him use my truck while he was in port since he had no wheels here.  He had asked me if I wanted some flounders. I told him the only thing I missed about not shrimping any more was not having any flounders. That is my favorite fish. So before I brought him to my home which he’d never seen to drop me off we put some flounders and fresh shrimp in my ice chest.

At home we talked about some of the amazing things God had been doing in our lives and our families lives since the last time we saw each other. Before he headed back to his boat he took me up on my offer of some fresh tomatoes and bell peppers so we went in the garden to pick some. When he saw my fig tree he said, “just a couple days ago I was thinking about the fig preserve my mom use to make and how it’s been so long since I had some.” The “God Is Up To Something” meter in my brain was going, ding, ding, ding, ding, off the chart.

Oddly enough on July 3, the day after I got laid off of work, early in the morning I finished and posted the blog I started on July 2nd and out of the blue, at the end I wrote about James.

Oddly enough on July 2nd after loosing my job, for the first time ever in my life I decided to make some fig preserve because we had so many figs.

Oddly enough just 9 days later James pops up again in my life almost out of nowhere and he tells me how he was craving his mom’s homemade fig preserve and gives me flounders I’d been craving for years too.

Psalm 145:15-16 KJVS
15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

I guess you know I gave him a couple jars of fig preserve to take with the tomatoes and bell peppers when he went back to his boat.

P.S. – Today is July 23, 2 days after posting this.  My first conscious thoughts this morning waking up were of two scriptures and how they applied to Father God satisfying the cravings for fig perserve and flounder James and I had without us asking for it.

Isaiah 65:24  “It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.

Matthew 6:8-11 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

He Is A Good, GOOD, Father!!!! by Chris Tomlin – lyrics,

But I know we’re all searching
For answers only you provide
‘Cause you know just what we need
Before we say a word

And all the more so to those who Hallow His Great Name!!!

Bishop Drew preached a Good Sermon today titled “Push.” In it he repeated a saying he has been bringing up lately, “when you see Odd Things, out of the ordinary things happening around you, Look For God.” I might not have quoted him exactly but you can hear him say it in the video below.

We serve an amazing God who has a wonderful way of letting us know He has His eye and hand upon us. You know God Really Is ALWAYS Up To Something, He NEVER Sleeps.

James and I also talked about Psalm 139 and he said, “I’ve often wondered what the wings of the morning is really talking about,” Oddly enough, that’s verse 9, like in 9, the number of days after starting the post I included James in until I saw him after so many years.

I did a little research on Psalm 139 verse 9 and the “wings of the morning” and found that in the Hebrew thought, the suns rays coming up over the horizon at dawn, sometimes make beams of light, “the wings of the morning”. David was saying if I could get on one of those beams of light and travel at the speed of light all the way to the western end of the sky, even there God would be with him and have His Almighty Hand upon him.

9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

I had this 2 cards mounted on the wall of my shrimp boat for about 14 years, from when I became a “Born Again with God’s Spirit” Christian, until I sold her in 2007. They came with me.

James and I have dwelt on the sea probably more years than we spent on land in our lives so this verse naturally has a sentimental value to us. Many many times I’ve thank Father God for granting the desire of my heart in letting me earn a living upon the waters and enjoying the bounty of all He’s provided in them.

When I read that about the “wings of the morning” it reminded me of a picture I took last year at work, at dawn early one fall morning.

Some day, maybe soon, James and I and all faithful followers of the Lord Jesus Chirst WILL Take The Wings of The Morning and zoom off at the speed of light to a Heavenly Kingdom.

John 14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Jesus isn’t Only “The Way,” He’s “The WAYMAKER Too!!!”
