The Law of Tithing or God’s Grace

The “Law of Tithing” or “God’s Grace,” Which Is Appropriate For Today?

This post is in response to the recent comments by Benny Hinn that he has abandoned the “Prosperity Gospel” teaching. His 1st public statement on it is here,

A couple years ago I went to spend the night, to sit with my Dad who was in the hospital because of pneumonia. I downloaded a series of 4 videos by a country Bible teacher I had noticed on Youtube about that time but remember from seeing on tv years ago on an early Sunday morning religious program. The preacher is Les Feldick and the series was titled, “End Times and Dispensation.” The 4 parts totaled to almost 5 hours. I wish I’d counted how many times I heard Les say, “Therefore being justified by faith, (PLUS NOTHING) we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” Romans 5:1

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,” Ephesians 2:8

The main focus of Les’ teaching is that the “Dispensation of Grace” was preached 1st by the Apostle Paul and Paul says on some occasions that it was “his gospel” and a mystery given to him by the Lord Jesus Christ.

My Gospel: to Jew and Gentile – Paul’s gospel made no distinction between Jew or Gentile. All are counted in unbelief as sinners, and are judged by God without respect of persons whether given the law or not. Therefore, Paul says: “In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. – Romans 2:16
During time past, Jesus’ earthly ministry, and up to his encounter with the Roman, Cornelius, there was a distinction between Jew and Gentile in Peter’s ministry preaching. The Jews had a special spiritual standing with the Lord. Gentiles did not.

My Gospel to Stablish – Paul says “my gospel” is how God stablishes the Romans. “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began…” – Romans 16:25 To the Corinthians, Paul claims to be the masterbuilder who lays the foundation of the grace of God upon which other men build.

According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon.” – 1 Corinthians 3:10

Resurrection According to My Gospel – Resurrection was a part of Jewish prophecy, Jesus foretold his own, and Peter preached the resurrection of Christ before Paul was saved. So how could Paul say this? “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:” – 2 Timothy 2:8

In Les’ teaching he brought up and confirmed 2 things I didn’t expect to hear but were things I have strong convictions that they are Biblical responses to being a “Born Again with God’s Spirit” Christian.

1st is that when God’s Holy Spirit comes into a person, He WILL begin to bring attention to things in your character that need to be adjusted to live a life that pleases God out of Love and Reverence for what He’s done for you.

The 2nd thing is that the prosperity Gospel preached and the use of the “tithing principle” does not jive with the Gospel of God’s Grace “Unmerited Favor.” To gain access to and increase in God’s unmerited favor, the key that we need to have is faith—faith to believe that we are indeed highly favored by God! … Ephesians 1:6 tells us that by God’s grace (unmerited favor), God “made us accepted in the Beloved.”

The following is a clip from Les Feldicks 4 part teaching where he finally gets another pastor to stop preaching the principle of “tithing” each week when offerings are taken and preach the “Grace” method instead. People giving according to how they feel the Holy Spirit is “leading them” to give, from a heart of thankfulness. The pastors confession of the result may shock you but is exactly what I had been believing and walking out in my life once I got off the “Law of Tithing” and gave back to God from my heart.

In this next video clip from Les’ teaching on End Times and Dispensation, he describes the difference between a “True Believers” a “True Born Again with God’s Spirit” Christian and one who isn’t. The genuine for the false believer.

This is a link to the entire 4 part teaching,

Getting back to the recent confession of Benny Hinn. He did a podcast with Stephen Strang of Charisma magazine to explain when and why he came out publicly about his change of view on preaching the prosperity Gospel. It’s almost hard to write this but “I believe God, The Lord Jesus Christ, got to his heart.” The words he uses to describe his change of heart are the things that caused me to “Truly Repent” in a way that “changed my walk with God. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are precious to me now. I don’t want to grieve them in any way, I’d rather die first than become a reproach to His Precious Name, again. When Benny says, ” I’ve hurt Him enough, I’ve grieved Him enough in my life” it speaks volumes to me and should to every “True Believer, Born Again with God’s Spirit.”
