Why Me Lord?

Psalms 8:3-4
” When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man (H582 – Enosh – a mortal) that You are mindful (H2142 – to mark, to remember, to mention) of him, And the son of man (H120 – Adam – a human) that You visit him?” (Psalms 8:3-4 NKJV)

Who am I that GOD would make me aware HE takes note of me, so often? Is it because I tell the world about it?
Why Me Lord?

Squeaky wheels Do Get “The Oil” if you get my drift!!!

My Grandma Eva was more like a mother to me. I spent more quality time with her than anyone else growing up. My first wife and I even lived with my grandparents for a little while when we first got married. I thought it was great, my wife, um not so much.

“Why Me Lord?” was her favorite song. She sang it all the time. I can almost hear her, It was popular back then.

Why Me Lord?

I have 2 reasons for proclaiming the tender mercies and loving kindness of my Dear Heavenly Father.

1st is because I Should, Especially knowing how unworthy I am to receive so many undeniable times He makes His Presence in my life known.

2nd but more important is that if I could get my children, grandchildren, friends and family to become more aware of His Intervention in their lives too.

Bishop Drew preached a message at Faith Cathedral called “Momentum“. The more you see God active in your life the more momentum you have to generate Faith to Believe Him for ALL Things.

Today Bishop Drew’s message is titled “Tilted”

because of a prophetic word he received recently. He says it’s that things in our country have become “Tilted” against us. It seems the momentum of our country is going in the wrong direction, headed up by groups and people that don’t have God’s or Christian values in mind. Bishop Drew has a clip of Kris Kristofferson in todays sermon about how he was Born Again and how “Why Me Lord” was written.  A natural reaction might be to despise or even hate these groups or people against Christ but that’s not the way Jesus taught us.

Matthew 5: 43-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Matthew 5:43‭-‬48 NKJV

Sometimes I wonder how people that remember what I was like in my worst days as a human would consider me now. If the Love of God is in them they’d be glad for the change God has brought to my life.

Just this week, my Dad who’s a retired pastor, and I were talking about how we must Love and pray for those who lie to our face, steal from us and every other wicked thing humans do to other humans. Even if they are family members that hasn’t been changed by the Love of God yet. Sometimes the people closest and who you kbow best are the hardest to love.  They’ve maybe hurt you personally or someone you love dearly. It’s not an easy thing to do when the flesh gets in the way but with God’s Grace we can look back on all God’s forgiven us of and think, “How can I not pray for God  to intervene in their life as He’s So Graciously done in my own.”

God is Holy, Holy, Holy. Part of what that means is that He is Different, Different, Different than anything I can imagine. Trying to form an image of what He’s like from the very best example of a human doesn’t begin to envision what a single attribute of God is like. Everything about God is Infinitely Beyond what we can even imagine.

We think of God’s forgiveness from our limited mind or His Love from our deepest heartfelt emotion thinking we grasp His. All the time we haven’t scratched the surface.

Then I think, “Why Me Lord?” Maybe Lord, I can show someone else what I’ve been through myself on my way back to you.

My prayer for you is that you too know God’s forgiveness of ALL Sin if you surrender to Him your life.

Ephesians 3:   For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the Width and Length and Depth and Height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do Exceedingly Abundantly ABOVE All that We Ask or Think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:14‭-‬21 NKJV
