You’ve Gotta Serve Somebody

Way back in 1979 on the 22nd Annual Grammy Awards  Bob Dylan From, “Dylan won his second— Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male, for “Gotta Serve Somebody.” click link to watch on Youtube. Dylan’s performance of the song was the best sort of fire-and-brimstone rock gospel — a religious and musical experience in the best possible way.” Over and over the repeated chorus of his song is,

Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody

Have you ever watched your children or grandchildren playing after they’ve had TOO MUCH sugary treats. You say or think to yourself, “man, if they could harness all that energy and use it for something good or productive.” Well I think our Heavenly Father looks at us and sees the things we pour our time, energy, talents and everything else He built into us, too often being directed in the wrong directions.

The main focus of yesterday’s post was kinda about that. Since creation we humans seem to have a habit of liking things, all sorts of things just a little too much.  We look at things a little too long and before we know it we are making an idol of it, then consciously or not start to worship it. God spoke the 10 commandments in the hearing of ALL the Israelites in Exodus 20 verses 1-17, in yesterday’s MyDailyBible app. Today it covered Exodus 20:18-26 to 21:1-11

One of the verses from Exodus’ reading today makes me imagine that Father God spoke those words in the light of a parent looking at the misdirected energy and focus of His children,

Exodus 20:25 NKJV  And if you make Me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone; for if you use your tool on it, you have profaned it.

Father God made something in us that seeks to find something to idolize and worship. HINT – It’s Supposed To Be Him! I think having made us in “His Own Image” also knew that if/when we make something it is really easy for us to look at it and say, “I see the thing that I’ve made, and, behold, it is very good.” Our plagiarism of Genesis 1:31.

Very early in scripture Father God had warned about the thing I addressed yesterday. Loving the Altar of God more than the “God of the Altar,” Loving the Temple or Church of God more than the “God of the Tabernacle” and Loving the Word of God more than the “God of the Word.”

All of the Theophanies of the Old Testament and then afterward, the birth of Immanuel, Yeshua Jesus (Before Abraham was, I AM) in the Bible were to bring home the point, we “serve” worship and adore a living, actually an “EverLiving God” NOT a thing or inanimate object. Some people think the worship of the thing described in Revelation 13:4-6 has already begun to take shape in the form of an AI Buddhist deity.

The dangers of AI getting out of control has been expressed in science and movies even before HAL went rogue in 2001 A Space Odyssey.  Mankind would do better to learn of the intelligence of our Heavenly Father, His Eternal Son Yeshua Jesus and the Holy Spirit spoken of in the Genesis accounts and the inspiration of His Word, The Holy Bible, All of It

In our Arrogance and Ignorance we usually think more highly of ourselves than we ought and think, “that’s them dummies from centuries ago” or even, “I’m way smarter than that.” Yet we too easily forget the ultimate enemy of our soul has been at his work of deception and leading the children of Father God astray for a very long time and is very good at being a good devil.

We are So Smart in our own eyes. As if we would fall for worshiping a “Golden Calf” like they did long ago, even if,  “Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out.”   The first lie by the first high priest, “You Gotta Be A Berean.”

Solomon said,    What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.    Ecclesiastes 1:9

There are NO Free Agents, Sitting on The Fence, Neutral Positions. Either you are “For or Against” as Jesus said in Mark 9:38-41.

Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody – Bob Dylan

It’s Not Only Golden Calves Anymore, Maybe You’ll Be Able to Relate, Flee Idolatry

Robert Allen Zimmerman who’s Hebrew name is Shabtai Zisl ben Avraham “aka” Bob Dylan, hopefully still has an ongoing relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Yeshua Jesus a fellow Hebrew. The story of Bob Dylan’s encounter with Jesus is described in this article I found on the web.

Many of us have made some wrong turns off the strait and narrow path we should stay on. I’m no different and have learned better than to judge where someone might be in their walk with our Dear Heavenly Father as My Testimony testifies to.
