Olive Oil & The Holy Anointing

olive tree

This year on the Hebrew calendar Tu BiShvat begins at sunset on January 20 and ends in the evening of January 21. It is also called “Rosh HaShanah La’Ilanot” literally “New Year of the Trees.” What better tree to consider as this day approaches than the olive tree. God has elevated the olive tree far above most trees because of it’s precious oil. Olive oil was used to anoint things in the Holy Tabernacle of God. Olive oil anointed kings, priests, the sick and everyone in between. Under certain conditions the bible says it is even witheld. Olive oil was not to accompany purification rights associated with dishonor, shame, sorrow, and disfavor, just as it was withheld from the body in times of mourning (II Sam.12:20; Dan.10:3). Therefore, in regard to the special sacrifice made when a man suspected his wife of having committed adultery, God commanded, “No oil shall be poured upon it and no frankincense should be laid on it, for it is a meal offering of remembrance which recalls doing wrong” (Num.5:15). The flour of a sin offering also was to be free from both oil and frankincense (Lev.5:11)

Like many fruit bearing trees, the fruit of the olive tree, in its wild state, is both small and worthless. It must be properly tended and cultivated to produce optimum fruit. To become truly prolific, the olive tree must be grafted, a process by which good stock is made to grow upon a wild shrub.

The apostle Paul  compared Israel and the Gentile nations to the olive tree. Paul wrote to the Romans, “For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, ‘Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.’ Well said.Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness.Otherwise you also will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?” (Romans 11:16-24).

It seems that for the past few weeks the subject of the two witnesses that Zechariah spoke of as the two living olive trees providing holy oil to the lamp stand comes up again and again.

Now the angel who talked with me came back and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep. And he said to me, “What do you see?” So I said, “I am looking, and there is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps. Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left.” So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, “What are these, my Lord?” Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my Lord.” So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. Then I answered and said to him, “What are these two olive trees—at the right of the lampstand and at its left?” And I further answered and said to him, “What are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains?” Then he answered me and said, “Do you not know what these are? ” And I said, “No, my Lord.” So he said, “These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.”

You can get further insight as to who the two witnesses are and what the lampstand really represents from Jesus’own words here, in the Book of Revelation

He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this. The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.
Revelation 1:16‭-‬20 NKJV

So each of the lampstands represents one of the seven churches Jesus evaluates. Further into Revelation Jesus gives deeper understanding

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.” These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.Revelation 11:3‭-‬4 NKJVhttps://bible.com/bible/114/rev.11.3-4.NKJV

Jesus says these two witnesses are both olive trees and lampstands. I think He is saying the Holy Spirit Oil of Anointing is both flowing from them and they are illuminated with it, revealing God’s agenda for the last days. Maybe it’s Elijah and Moses or Elijah and Enoch but whoever it is will have power from on high to call down fire from heaven and even from their mouths.

Pastor Charles Lawson spoke on this subject Dec. 12th in this sermon,

Serving God Is Not Easy At Times

And from a School of Christ International teaching called “The Conflict”, part 1 Pastor Bert Clendennen also brings “illumination” on these verses in Zechariah. I uploaded part 1 in the Youtube video,

On Jan. 6, 2019 at Faith Cathedral in New Iberia, Bishop Drew preached the “Anointed Oil Service” where the congregation brought bottles of olive oil to be blessed for home and personal use.

For the past few weeks the scriptures from Zechariah, Revelation and the Olive Oil used for anointing have come up often and made my spiritual ears perk up when ever I heard it mentioned. I think maybe the Holy Spirit is bringing the topic of the two witnesses up because their appearing is drawing very near. When they do appear Jesus says they will have 1260 days to accomplish their ministry on Earth. A definite proof that we will be in the last days.

Also, maybe so much focus is being placed on the Holy Oil of Anointing to remind Christians of the parable of the 10 virgins. Five were wise, having their lamps trimmed and it’s light illuminating as they should, letting their “little light shine”. But the five foolish virgins let their Holy Anointing Oil run out and were not permitted in the marriage supper. A clear picture of the lukewarm Christians that are focusing too little on our Father God’s business and being prepared for these perilous days in the future.

Jesus warned many times in the gospels that even the very elect could fall for the deception of the enemy and the lukewarm church in the last days. The virgins and the elect He was speaking about are those who call themselves “Christians”.

God has made a practise of warning His people through angels, prophets and even by Jesus Himself of any major events that would effect His children.

Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. Amos 3:7 NKJV

Is there ever a good time not to be as near to God as possible, seeking His Holy Ghost Anointing, desiring to hear as clearly as possible His voice and to have the mind of Christ. How much more as we see the last days approaching should we hold loosely the things of this world and lay hold to the things of God.

Throughout the Bible, olive oil has played a major role to mark people and things in their consecration to God’s will. This is an excerpt from an article found here,

Mystery Of The Olive Tree
http://ecoliveiras.blogspot.com/2014/02/mystery-of-olive-tree.html?m=1

God is going to raise up two unique human beings – who will be His servants, like unto Moses and Aaron, or Elijah and Elisha.

These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy, and they have power over waters, to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire” (Rev. 11:6).

These men are ‘sons of fresh oil” – olive oil! That is to say, they are FILLED with the Holy Spirit of God – ANOINTED by God to be His end-time prophets who will rebuke kings and nations, and thunder out the final warnings of God to a sin-drenched, wicked and corrupt world!

What about us – you and me? Are we “sons of oil”? Are we FILLED with God’s Holy Spirit? When we pray, does God shake heaven and earth to answer our prayers and to intervene? “And let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Heb.10:23-25).

Let us strive to burn with the zeal of God, and to produce good fruit, filled with the oil of God’s Holy Spirit – as the firstfruits! Let’s learn the lesson of the olive tree!
